Core classes

Pre-School, Age 4 (By Dec. 31st)

This class creates an interest in dance, helps develop rhythm, encourages cooperation

and improves motor skills.

Pre-Ballet, Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades (classes are separate)

These classes continue pre-school dance development. In addition, musicality and dance

coordination are taught in preparation for classical ballet. Tap dancing is included in the

1st and 2nd grades.

Classical Ballet, 3rd and 4th grades (classes are separate)

The emphasis in these grades is on ballet terminology, body placement and correct use

of feet and legs through proper turnout. Tap dancing is included in the 3rd and 4th grades.

Tap, 1st grade through 12th

Tap classes develop rhythm, quick foot work, balance and transference of weight and

stress the importance of cooperation.

Boys Tap, 1st grade through 12th

Boys begin their own dance education through exclusively male classes.

Cecchetti Ballet Technique, 5th grade through 12th (All female students must enroll in ballet)

Four organizations worldwide offer graded ballet examinations given by a qualified

board of examiners. Our studios are affiliated with the Cecchetti Council of America.

Council members are in the studio once a year to examine candidates.

Jazz, 6th grade through 12th

Classical Jazz technique is the main emphasis along with todays current styles.

Musical Theatre, 7th grade through 12th

As part of the junior and senior high tap classes, students will be able to explore

classical Broadway and movie musical styles of dance.

Specialty classes

Sur le Pointe, 8th grade through 12th — Aberdeen and Watertown studios

(Pointe students will be placed on pointe shoes at the discretion of the teacher)

Toe or pointe dancing is available as part of our advanced curriculum. Pointe students

must be enrolled in a minimum of two classes per week.

Company Ballet, 9th grade through 12th — Aberdeen studio

This non-Cecchetti ballet class is an advanced syllabus, sur le pointe, to challenge the

techniques of the devoted student.

Non-Syllabus/Freestyle, 9th grade through 12th — Aberdeen and Watertown studios

This class is designed to help students develop style and technique through

freestyle ballet movement.

Modern/Contemporary, 9th grade through 12th — Aberdeen and Watertown studios

This contemporary dance technique explores the balance between contraction and release,

tension, personal expression and use of breath.

Irish, 9th grade through 12th — Aberdeen and Watertown studios

In this class, students will be learning soft shoe and hornpipe shoe (hard shoe) styles of dance.

Dance Team, 9th grade through 12th — Aberdeen studio

These classes focus on precision, projecting energy and entertaining a crowd.

Drill team and funk routines will be taught as well as the technical basics needed

for dance teams.
